Dorchester’s Daughter Publishing is owned and operated by Vanessa Lewis. Founded in 2008, the company became an outlet for Vanessa to release her first novel. In addition to her own writing Dorchester's Daughter will be the publishing home of many other authors.

Author Profile: Vanessa Lewis

Vanessa Lewis was born and raised in a small urban area of Boston Massachusetts called Dorchester. The Dorchester area has a reputation for gun violence. People often have preconcieved judgments about the place that has been her home and heart for many years. At times, it was uncomfortable to answer the question “where are you from?” It has always been a passion of Vanessa’s to find a way to remove the negative connotation associated with the word “Dorchester”.

While working as an RA at a small college in Milton MA, Vanessa completed her first novel. To pass the time while on duty, Vanessa composed a love story that seemed to make time fly and stand still simultaneously, with Dorchester as its back drop. Unfortunately after receiving her B.A. and beginning to work full time, the novel (and writing in general) was put aside. The book that once dominated her free time sat on a floppy disk for years because she wasn’t sure of how to share it with the world.  An avid reader herself, Vanessa spent those years reading the works of other authors wondering when she’d hold her own in her hands. 

Through that love story Vanessa was motivated to start her own small publishing company and release that love story herself.  With an epic romance in production and a company named after the town…Dorchester is no longer a bad word!
